Building a library of your thoughts

Recently I have been obsessed with recording my thoughts for future reference. This way I can strengthen what I know, clarify what I'm thinking, and paint a greater picture of my mind's workings.

By writing here I strengthen what I know

Writing is slow, structured thinking.

By taking the time to focus and think about only one topic, I work those neural pathways and solidify the memory.

In short, writing is a way to learn and remember things.

Clarify my thinking

Since I am writing in public, I am forced to use headings and tags and titles and excerpts and write my writing in a way that is understandable to another human being.

I cannot be sloppy. I have to be a bit more organized. And this isn't just happening here - on this page. It's also being reflected in my mind.

My mind now is forced to slow down and organize its thoughts. It can no longer spew tangled and incoherent nonsense anymore. It has to put on a filter and process the thoughts before putting them into writing.

Then perhaps even I can understand what the hell I'm thinking.

Paint a greater picture of my mind's workings

I want to see how things are related, how they are connected.

My day to day RAM is limited, I can only remember so much context at once. But being able, for example, search a tag like "loneliness", I can then see every note I've written about that topic. Then I can narrow down and see how they are connected, common themes, and remind myself of important principles.

There's even a chance to connect new ideas and spark creativity.

That is why it is important to build a library of your mind.

Wish you all a lovely day.

Warm Regards,

Jacob Pugmire
